Quick Review

The CR-V has long been one of the top-sellers in the compact-crossover market sector and, although the model has been updated for 2012, Honda has chosen to play it safe by not making any radical changes so as not to deter potential buyers.

Improved sound insulation and upgraded suspension make for a smoother, quieter ride and fuel economy - already highly respectable for this class of vehicle - has been improved further still to around 9.4 L/100km. Despite being just under three centimeters shorter and lower by roughly the same amount, the cabin of the 2012 CR-V feels more airy and spacious thanks to the vehicle being slightly wider than the previous model.

Storage space has always been great with the CR-V and the 2012 model is no exception, offering more than 1045 liters in the trunk. A new mechanism introduced this year means the rear seats can now be folded down flat with the touch of a single button, increasing the storage space up to more than 2,000 liters.

Sadly, Honda has yet to include a V6 engine option for this model, something that many of its rivals already have. As with previous years, the automatic gearbox comes with just five speeds, far fewer than similar vehicles, some of which have up to eight gears available.

The CR-V remains a fantastic car - a joy to drive and packed with features that make it the ideal choice for the active family. However, with improvements being made to rival vehicles such as the Toyota RAV4 and the Hyundai Santa Fe, the CR-V is no longer the clear winner it once was.
