Quick Review

The Jeep Cherokee has always been among the better-appointed, more desirable mid-size SUVs on the market and the 2012 model retains this status.

Rivaling the Nissan Xterra and the Toyota FJ Cruiser, the Cherokee has always had a quality feel about it. Although it does face competition from its rivals in cargo space - the Cherokee makes up for this with a well-appointed cabin and plenty of optional extras for added luxury.

If you desire even more performance, there is a Sports Option which has all the off-road capabilities of its smaller siblings but, thanks to a 3.7 litre V6 under the hood, is also capable of good sports performance.

Where the Cherokee really comes into is own is when it is taken off road. While all modern SUVs have some capabilities in this area, the Jeep has by far the best heritage and is truly the Grandfather of all off-road vehicles. With good ground clearance and stability combined with plenty of climbing power, the Cherokee makes mincemeat of just about any challenge thrown at it.

Studies show that relatively few SUV owners ever take their vehicles off road. In the case of the Cherokee that is a great shame as the vehicle clearly thrives in that environment. If, however, you are truly looking for a car that offers silky-smooth refinement on the highway and gutsy performance away from it, the 2012 Jeep Cherokee is a great choice.
