Quick Overview

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a compact crossover that offers good value, useful practicality and a more premium feel than its competitors. Despite looking somewhat conservative and unexciting, the Tiguan offers solid reliability and dependable build quality. Its main rivals include the Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4, Mazda CX-5 and the Hyundai Tucson.

The 2014 Tiguan received a mid-cycle refresh that includes the addition of LED, a more pronounced front grille and bigger rims. Despite this, the Tiguan is not the best looking model in its class. It is almost hard to justify the extra cost for a near conventional crossover. Although its looks are not its strong points, it makes up for it with a rewarding chassis that is intuitive and capable. The ride is comfortable and handles with ease. Although the Tiguan has reasonable ground clearance, it isn't a natural off-roader. It's available in seven trim levels to suit any buyer's budget and is powered by a choice of three engines. All engines are mated to either 5 or 7 speed dual clutch gearbox that has ultra quick shifts. Opting for the R-Line version adds quite a lot of kit while making the Tiguan a little more attractive.

Being a VW, the interior is simple and conservative but very logical. Being German, it is sure to last for ages. The cabin for this crossover is very decent, spacious and airy while providing tons of practicality with folding rear seats and a decent sized trunk. Standard equipment is fair, with base models coming with 6 standard airbags, USB connectivity, 8 speakers and plenty of safety equipment.
