Compact crossovers with the best value for money seem to be the expertise of Japanese and German car manufacturers. The CX 5 is among Mazda’s top billing models in this category, with the Volkswagen Tiguan as its toughest competitor. Although the Japanese crossover was introduced much later in 2013, the Tiguan, which was launched in 2007, certainly knows how to keep up with the times.

Exterior

The Mazda CX 5 has a smooth overall finish, which makes its German rival look ordinary. It has body colored front and rear bumpers, as well as body colored mirrors and door handles, and fog lamps. It also boasts a bigger built than its rival, with a length of 4.45 meters, width of 1.84 meters, and height of 1.67 meters.

It is worth noting that both models feature power windows, electric door mirrors, high mount stop lamp, door mirrors with side turn signal, and allow wheels. Nonetheless, the CX 5 undeniably steals the spotlight.

Both models have a seating capacity of five, but the Tiguan’s smaller size leaves it at a disadvantage in terms of cargo capacity. It can only carry up to 615 liters, while its Japanese opponent boasts a maximum cargo capacity of 965 liters. The classy minimalist interior style of the CX 5 also draws more attention compared to the Tiguan’s seemingly monotonous design.

However, what the Volkswagen Tiguan lacks in aesthetics, it makes up for in safety and functionality. The German crossover boasts vehicle stability control, front and rear parking sensors, hill assist, and tire pressure monitoring display. It also has power outlets and automatic seat adjustment, in addition to power steering, trip computer and multi information display which is common among the rivaling models.

Performance

In contrast, the Volkswagen Tiguan runs on a smaller 1.4-liter turbo charged engine that delivers 150 horsepower and 250 NM of torque. The Tiguan runs faster than its opponent, with speeds reaching up to 200 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 9.2 seconds.
