Abu Dhabi Radars

In a bid to improve the safety of motorists and road users in the emirate, Abu Dhabi Police have rolled out a number of new radars that will be functional from 1st January 2021 and automatically fine motorists who are not wearing seatbelts or using their mobile phone while driving.

Mohamed Abdelhameed Al Askar, Director-General of the ADDA, said: “This cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Police comes as part of ADDA’s efforts to utilize accurate data analysis and benefit from the latest technologies to enable a digital government that is proactive, personalized, collaborative and secure. The traffic safety and road accident reduction model will significantly contribute to reducing accident and injury rates, thus enhancing traffic safety levels across the emirate.”

Titled Vehicular Attention and Safety Tracker (VAST), the system is aimed at reducing road accidents and enhancing traffic safety in the Capital. In collaboration with the Department of Government Support – Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Digital Authority (ADDA), Abu Dhabi Police have developed a radar monitoring system to capture high-res images through AI-powered cameras and fine motorists who aren’t wearing their seatbelt or using their mobile phone while driving.
