BMW has released its first half year financial report and things are looking good for the German carmaker despite the chip shortages and disrupted supply chains. Things weren’t as good as they were before COVID due to supply chain bottlenecks but the Bavarian firm is sailing through these tough times quite nicely.

BMW delivered 1,160,094 vehicles in the first half year of 2022, this compared to 2021’s all-time high figure of 1,339,047 units means deliveries have declined but we should keep in mind the supply chain issues and Covid lockdowns in China. Going by all those factors, staying there or thereabouts its record breaking delivery figures is very good news.

Reading between the lines in BMW’s lengthy financial report - most of which we don’t understand - we saw that sales of fully electric models more than doubled. It looks like consumers are now fully moving towards electric cars.

The BMW iX3 and MINI Cooper SE were the cars in demand with 21,548 and 18,428 units sold, respectively. And BMW won’t stop there as it is launching its iX, i4 and i7 in global markets enabling it to gain a foothold in the EV car market space.

Dr. Hamid Haqparwar, Managing Director, BMW Group Middle East said, “As a leader in e-mobility, we firmly believe in the course we have chosen and continue to pursue our strategy in the Middle East – with the right products at the right time”

BMW isn’t giving up on hydrogen power as well as Dr. Hamid further stated:“I am convinced that Hydrogen, one of the most efficient options for storing and transporting renewable energy, will play a major role as a fuel in this region of the world, and we will be piloting the second generation of our hydrogen fuel cell drivetrain in a small series of the BMW iX5 Hydrogen in due course.”

While talking about hydrogen, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse said: “In our view, hydrogen is the missing piece of the puzzle that can complement electromobility in places where battery-electric drivetrains are unable to gain traction.”
