‘Z,’ the moment an ardent car enthusiast hears this complemented by the raging rev of a car’s engine, he knows a legend is all-set to break cover. Just how the letters ‘M’ and ‘N’ are associated with BMW and Hyundai, respectively, ‘Z’ is apparent as if it were patented by Nissan. A lineage created by diligent effort of five decades, Nissan, through its official distributor in the UAE, Arabian Automobiles, the flagship company of the AWRostamani Group has unveiled the new Z. It pays homage to its six progenitors and bears the onus of setting the pulse racing yet again of each of the 1.8-million enthusiasts’ hearts.

Creating frenzy and hubbub around its debut in the region of automobile endearing personalities, the new Nissan Z led the Dubai Run, the world’s largest fun run festival where a stupefying 193,000 fitness influencers partook.

The Nissan Z carries forward the typical silhouette of its precursors such as a hunkered boot, raked roofline and beefy overhangs. Bearing a debatable front-end with a rather bulky grille, some have conceded to its panache. The car’s appearance makes it synonymous with superlatives such as speed, thrust, grip and sublime performance.

On the inside, the car is an unusual fusion of sportiness and simplicity. This is because the leather seats and interior, designed in collaboration with SuperGT race driver Tsugio Matsuda, arouses sportiness and aggression that is a requisite characteristic of a coupe. However, bits such as the rotund interior door handles and AC vents are minimalistic. Certain features such as the gauges on top of the dashboard, digital instrument cluster and Nissan’s 8” touchscreen infotainment system enabling connectivity add a pinch of modernity. However, for true-blue drivers, seldom could anything be as revelling as a manual transmission gear lever. Many would have sent blessings to Nissan for providing this in an age where manual transmissions are slowly bidding adieu to the world. The digital gauges can be adhered to one’s requirement and certain driver-assistance features can be gazed through the instrument cluster.

The car also stows a host of safety and driver-assistance gismos with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto® connectivity for absorbing the melodious sound of your favourite music track from a six-speaker audio. In addition, an on-board Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity also exists.

The car draws its grunt from a 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol engine that releases 400hp at 6,400 rpm and 475 Nm of torque between 1,600-5,600 rpm. Available in a sole rear-wheel driven layout, opting for the version with 6-speed manual transmission features an accentuated performance-grade launch aid control system that guarantees a civilised and unruffled launch from a standstill to prevent excessive load on the engine, friction between the under body parts and clutch. On the flip side, the 9-speed automatic transmission provides rapid shifts for bursts of acceleration and rasp from the exhaust that would be music to the ears. The latter also comes with two drive modes- sport and standard. Where Sport intensifies the car by making steering sharper, multiplying the sound’s effect and adjusting the dampers to make the car nimble and confident along serpentine roads, Standard is the one to choose for daily placid commuting.

The car is available across Al Rostamani’s dealership outlets in Dubai, Sharjah and Northern Emirates.
