Audi A4 2014 Review

Quick Overview

The Audi A4 is a very dignified and refined compact executive car, with a formal and charming look. It is understated, yet elegant. A very clean looking car, it does not have the more aggressive stance of its competitors but it was not designed to have one. It is impeccably stylish, especially in S-Line trim. Its rivals include the Mercedes C Class, BMW 3 Series and the Lexus IS.

The refreshed face of the 2014 A4 with the elegant LED lights makes the car standout and very recognisable. The Audi A4 is the only car in its segment to come with front wheel drive as standard, the Quattro All Wheel Drive is an optional extra. Despite not having the sportiest of layouts, it is roomier than its rivals and feels bigger and more composed on the road, with a very decent ride. Handling is not one of its best attributes, but it does feel planted and secure especially with the Quattro system. The A4 comes with a choice of 3 engines, a 1.8 Litre Turbo with a meagre 120 HP or a more sensible 170 HP, a 2.0 Litre Turbo with 225 HP and a supercharged 3.0 V6 with 272 HP. Avoid Audi's Multitronic gearbox as it is slow and unresponsive in favour of the more modern 8 Speed Stronic. An optional S-Line package is available that does change the driving dynamics to make it more sporty and better to drive as well as a more aggressive look that really makes the A4 a cool and stylish car.

The interior is typical Audi, it feels business-like, very modern and logical with no surprises. The materials used are top notch and has the legendary Audi build quality that feels like it will last for decades. Standard cars get a load of equipment and tech that will keep occupants happy and safe. However, Audi's multimedia or MMI system is a tricky thing to get used to. The 2014 A4 remains a top choice in this class, offering an honest and reliable package.
