Quick Review

The 2012 Audi S6 has waved goodbye to the Lamborghini derived 10 cylinder engine and has welcomed a twin turbo 8 cylinder that produces the same power but scores better in terms of efficiency making the S6 a better and more practical everyday car.

The new S6 is equipped with a 4.0 liter 8 cylinder engine that produces 420 horsepower and a tire burning 550 Nm of torque. The seven speed manual transmission achieves 0 – 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds! Although the new model does have 15 horsepower less than the previous model, an extra 8 Nm of torque and a redesigned, lighter body enhance the driving experience.

As for the interior, Alcantara and leather upholstery come as standard, along with xenon headlights, satellite navigation, air suspension and a great 10 speaker sound system. Seating 5 people comfortably isn't an issue and the active noise cancellation which records interior sound waves from the four microphones in the headliner, ensures the interior is quiet and peaceful at all times.

From the exterior the S6 distinguishes itself from the A6 with a spoiler, rear diffuser, quad exhaust pipes and sport seats. Apart from these minor alterations, there aren't many hints as to the amount of power packed under the hood.

All in all, it is fair to say that the S6 is a practical everyday car since it is fuel efficient, boasts a large boot and is spacious enough to seat 5 individuals comfortably. The only let down would possibly be a dull exterior since it is still very similar to the A6.

Worthy competitors of the S6 include the Lexus ES300, and Mercedes-Benz E 500.
