Quick Review

The 2012 Audi A8 has got to be worth more than a second glance for anyone looking at a luxury sedan. This car is sleek, elegant and sophisticated and it really does feel luxurious and spacious. The interior has all the gizmos that any techie could possibly desire including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi access and i-Pod connectivity.

Even the basic model packs a fairly powerful punch with its 3.0L V6 engine. The main difference this year is the introduction of the A8L W12 with its spanking 12-cylinder engine that churns out 500bhp and 625 Nm torque. Every A8 comes with all wheel drive fitted as standard which makes this car ideal for cornering and dealing with slippery roads.

The long wheel base version is enormous but that doesn’t slow it down, thanks to its light aluminum bodywork. The Audi A8 doesn’t have many drawbacks; it’s spacious and roomy inside with plenty of head and leg room for the driver and all passengers. However, this means that luggage room has been compromised and the boot isn’t as big as you'd expect from a large luxury sedan.

The A8 doesn’t disappoint on safety features, it has dynamic steering to counteract any sliding, assisted parking, cruise control, night vision and pedestrian detecting technology. There’s also a package of optional extras which includes a collision detector and blind spot monitoring.

The Audi A8 may not have the cool image associated with some of its more glamorous cousins in the luxury sedan gang such as the BMW 7 series or the Jaguar XJ, but what it lacks in panache, it makes up for in performance, safety and luxury.
