Quick Review

The biggest change for the BMW Z4 2012 model year is the brand new engine that will feature in both the Z4 sDrive28i and the 528i. The existing inline-six engine makes way for a new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that's a touch lighter on horsepower but stronger on torque. It also boasts other new standard features, including a USB port and Bluetooth.

The BMW Z4 2012 holds up reasonably well next to most cars in its segment, offering its close competitors from Porsche and Mercedes a good run for their money. It's a pricey ride, but justifies the extra expense with sleek styling, a luxurious interior, and an excellent ride. The new base engine is sure to attract attention and there are lots of nice details, such as the quick-folding hard-top and This is an energetic roadster that will appeal to the luxury shopper who's looking for sporty thrills rather than something more sedate. Those who really want to feel the open road can opt out of high-tech gadgets such as the iDrive and stick with the manual transmission.

Without being rough, the new engine imparts a slightly more energetic growl to the sporty Z4. However, it can rattle while the car is idling. Visibility is great, especially rearward. The ride is nimble and precise. The BMW Z4 has adjustable sport suspension that lets you tailor the riding experience to fit your personal taste; you can decide between a tighter, sportier suspension or a softer, more comfortable one.
