Quick Review

The Hyundai Sonata is a top competitor in the affordable mid-size range. Not everyone is convinced the styling of the body will stand the test of time, but for now it's been a strong performer and the sleek, smooth design carries over seamlessly to the interior which houses a dramatic curving dashboard with a good-sized LCD screen topping off the futuristic feel of the car.

Some may be saddened to learn that you'll never find a V6 under the bonnet of a factory Sonata (they're all four cylinders). As an automatic, it's a responsive, seamless gear changer but the steering could use a little fine tuning, particularly for highway driving. The Sonata rivals with tough competitors, Ford Fusion and Toyota Camry to name a few.

But where all models of the Sonata shine are the features. Standard inclusions entail cruise control; power windows, locks and mirrors; a telescopic driving wheel; a USB power port and Bluetooth. Higher models add on sport-tuned suspension, heated seats and push-button start. All have excellent fuel economy with just under 14km/l.

If you're after value for money, the Hyundai Sonata is a very good choice. Whether you've got a young family or are just waving the last of your brood out the door, it's a reliable mid-sized car packed with features.
