Quick Overview

The 2014 Lexus GX is designed for those car buyers who want something bigger than a crossover but not quite as big as a full size SUV. They also want an added capability to tackle any terrain while doing so in total luxury and comfort.

With a redesigned front grille, addition of LED lights and some tech upgrades, the 2014 Lexus GX now looks very fashionable and butch. Its main rivals include the Mercedes ML 500, the Land Rover LR4 and the Infiniti QX60.

The Lexus GX is based on the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado platform, which has a very capable chassis. The ride is smooth and comfortable, but the height and weight of the GX means it does suffer from body roll and the handling is not great either. However, the optional adaptable air suspension makes the big Lexus better to drive. Nevertheless the Lexus GX feels totally at ease on any terrain, it remains of the very few luxury SUVs that can do proper off-roading in total comfort. Powered by a new generation 4.6 Litre V8 producing 301 HP, and a 6 speed automatic, it does the job of moving the big Lexus easily. Being a Lexus, you can be assured that everything in the car will work for ages no matter how hard it is driven.

Lexus does a great job with interiors, inside the GX 460 the styling is modern and contemporary and with acres of leather, it really spoils its occupants. As with Lexus, standard equipment is more than generous with a rear-view camera, sunroof, Bluetooth connectivity and Lexus Remote Touch infotainment which one of the best on the market. Like its bigger sibling, the Lexus GX can also seat up to seven passengers, although the 3rd row is more designed for kids than adults.
