Quick Review

The newest in the long line of M-Class vehicles has a few slight but significant tweaks to this highly popular Mercedes vehicle. The already long wheelbase has been extended even longer and the width has also been expanded. The car now also sits almost an inch lower to the ground and in addition to the extra space this provides it has also improved the overall ride and handling. The new interior has a range of technical improvements to the dashboard and the 2012 models offer better fuel consumption.

The M-Class can be compared with the BMW X5 and the Porsche Cayenne and it is fair to say that the M-Class looks like a very competitive option to these opponents, certainly across key areas like price and performance. It offers great fuel performance economy and more interior space particularly with regard to legroom. Although it lags behind in the 0-100 km stakes, the top speed is equal and the handling is on par with the Porsche Cayenne.

Given the price bracket that it sits in, there is no arguing that this is a top of the range luxury vehicle. It is however, much more affordable than many vehicles with similar specifications.

The drive and handling of the 2012 version of the car are what sets it apart and it is here that the Mercedes team has invested a large part of their expertise. It is responsive and the steering is light yet quick and accurate. Overall the handling is excellent.
