Quick Review

The V60 is the station wagon/estate car version of Volvo's S60 sedan. New for 2012 is a fresh look and upgrades in Volvo's proprietary systems, such as the City Safety autonomous collision-avoidance technology used to prevent low-speed collisions.

The V60 is a good all-rounder with a nice interior that's roomy and uses premium materials. It's not the flashiest car, but it's good looking and pleasantly stylish. Volvo has packed in its trademark of next-generation safety features: collision detection, pedestrian avoidance, and automatic braking systems are fitted as standard. With its size and safety, it's an inviting option for a family car; it bucks the Volvo stereotype by being fun to drive. The only real gripe is the relative dearth of luggage space.

If you're looking for a family car, you could also look at the BMW 3-Series wagon. The BMW name has more cachet than Volvo's, and their 3-Series wagon has more cargo room. You might miss all those high-tech standard safety features, though, as you rack up the options on the BMW. There's also the Audi A4 Avant, which has a deliciously upscale interior and features all-wheel drive as standard.

The Volvo V60 is a family car for the premium shopper who wants plenty of safety as well as style and performance.

The V60 is a surprisingly engaging drive. It handles well for a large car and also packs a decent amount of power. It's also a very comfortable and smooth ride.

Rivals:

  1. BMW 3-Series Wagon

  2. Audi A4 Avant
