Quick Review

The Hyundai Accent is approaching its eighteenth birthday and it’s changed a lot over those years. 2013 marks the birth of a new generation. The car has been completely redesigned and the feedback by the motoring press has been positive. The 2013 Accent features a new engine; braking system and suspension not found on previous editions. The Accent offers fuel economy which will rival any competitor in its class (6.72 L/100KM). The 1.6L petrol engine produces 95 horsepower and 125 Nm.

As alternatives, Kia offers the Kia Rio, which is also redesigned for 2013 and like the Accent it has the appearance of a car above its own price bracket. The Rio’s engine is also a 1.6liter and produces 138 horsepower but has inferior fuel economy. Another alternative is the Honda City; this is a slightly larger engine car but equally effective in urban driving.

Passengers will find the rear seats very comfortable and surprisingly spacious for a car of its size. However, the experience will be detracted by Hyundai’s extensive use of cheap materials in the interior. Drivers, will however appreciate the responsiveness of the Accent’s transmission and the effectiveness of the new anti-lock brakes. The Accent is let down by its heavy steering, and drivers have reported poor rear vision when performing maneuvers.

The Accent is perfect for anyone wanting a car that is both inexpensive to purchase and inexpensive to run. If you prefer performance and functionality over comfort and sophistication this is your car.
