347 traffic violations recorded weekly in Sharjah

Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, one of the busiest roads used by commuters travelling between Dubai and Sharjah on a daily basis, is where locally devised radars have snapped 347 traffic violations in a matter of just one week.

The new radar, designed by Sharjah Police and the traffic department, was activated on August 21st and has since caught offenders driving on the hard-shoulder, obstructing traffic, speeding, and not adhering to their lane.

According to Sharjah Police, a total of 10 radars have been installed in the first phase covering areas such as Ittihad Road, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road and Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Road, with the number set to increase in the near future.

The new radars which utilize a high-resolution camera and advanced photo / video systems, is a part of the Ministry of Interior’s efforts to decongest traffic flow by up to 30% during peak hours.

This news comes days after Dubai Police announced that illegal transport of passengers can fetch those involved in running illegal taxis, a fine ranging anywhere from AED 20,000 to AED 50,000. The most common places where these taxis operate are around Dubai Airports and Dubai’s seaport, Port Rashid.
