Traffic deaths in Dubai show a 77% rise in the first quarter of the year. That being said, the Dubai Traffic Department are starting up a safety campaign this week, where they decided to increase patrols by 30% and plant more radar speed guns, mostly around the most threatening roads.

Dhahi Khalfan, Dubai’s police chief, is aiming to reduce traffic deaths to 100 cases by the end of the year, where last year traffic deaths reached 123.

Maj Gen Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, head of the traffic department, told Al Ittihad newspaper that ” all patrols have instructions to toughen up on offenders, to immediately impound speedsters' cars, and refer them to police on a criminal charge of endangering their lives and the lives of others". As quoted by the National newspaper.
